Don't Risk your Dog's Health

Don't Risk your Dog's Health

It's tempting to try and save money when it comes to buying dog food. But resist that temptation. Feeding your dog poor quality food can make him sicker than ... well a dog. Show your dog how much you love him by feeding him the best dog food and avoid the ingredients listed below.

Poor Quality Dog Food Ingredients

Corn

Avoid dog foods that contain corn. Dogs can't digest corn and it triggers allergies which lead to dog skin problems such as itching and excessive shedding.

Wheat

Wheat is another allergen. You need to avoid it when feeding your dog. Avoid grains -- they are not a natural part of a dog's diet.

Soy

It's a grain -- avoid it.

Powdered cellulose

Avoid at all costs. Cellulose is a fancy word for sawdust, something you definitely do not want to feed your dog.

Meat by-products

You see this term listed on many foods for dogs. This term means anything that humans don't eat - undeveloped eggs, neck, feet, head, teeth - nothing fit for human consumption. If you wouldn't eat it, don't feed it to your dog.

Preservatives BHA, BHT and Ethoxyguin

They are cancer-causing carcinogens and banned from human food. If it can cause cancer in humans, it can cause cancer in dogs.

Dyes

Avoid due to their potential cancer causing properties.

Meat

Anytime a dog food states 'meat' as an ingredient, it means 'by product.' If it isn't the first on the list, you can probably be right in assuming it is a by-product.

Beef and bone meal

This is a low quality meat product.

Soybean meal

This ingredient is used as a source of protein in dog food but is poor quality. Nothing with soybeans should be included in your dog's food due to allergy problems.

Brewer's rice

This ingredient is a waste product. It is used grain and is a by-product of the alcohol industry. There is no nutritional value left in the grain - it is strictly filler.

Love your dog as much as he loves you and feed him a good quality dog food to keep him healthy and happy.

#1 Soy is not a grain. It's a legume like all other beans.

#2 BHA and BHT are preservative and they are not illegal or proven to cause any disease they are used in many different products.

#3 Dogs eat bones why wouldn't they want to eat bone meal?

#4 Brewer's rice is just regular rice that has been broken into small peices and is undesirable because of it's appearance so it's frequently sold to breweries. It is not the byproduct of brewing.

This article is full of inaccurate information and fabrications.
