5 Ways to Save Energy in Your Home

5 Ways to Save Energy in Your Home

Looking for new ways to save energy and cut costs on your utility bill? Already tried the usual methods and still need to save more, try these tips to lower your bill.

1. Solar panels

Solar panels have been around for a while. Due to expense and bulky design, they didn't become a mainstream way to save energy in the home. Now there are new and improved models that are less expensive and more efficient.

If you really want to save a bundle and are the handy type, try making your own solar energy panels. Plans are available for panels that can be made for under $200 and you can save up to 80% on your energy costs.

2. Windmills

Everyone knows what a windmill is but not too many people consider putting one in their yard. By simply making your own small windmill for under $100, it will supplement or even provide energy for your entire home.

These windmills are small and can save you hundreds of dollars on your utility bill each year plus they're good for the environment.

3. LED lights

By switching to LED lights in your home, you will be using 95% less energy than by using luminous light bulbs that we're all familiar with. LED is short for light emitting diode. These bulbs are long lasting, and they don't break as easily! A two watt LED lasts up to 60,000 hours and a 60 watt luminous bulb lasts only an average of 1,000 hours.

4. Tankless water heaters

Tankless water heaters are gaining in popularity and usage as people realize how much money is saved. These water heaters heat water as it passes over the coils. Instead of keeping 25 or 50 gallons of water heated constantly, it only heats the amount of water you need.

5. Photo control lights

For safety's sake, many homeowners install outdoor lighting that lights up the perimeter of the home. These lights are great for safety, but they quickly run up the utility bill when the homeowners forget to turn them off.

To eliminate this problem, try switching all outdoor lights to photo control. Photo Control lights sense the amount of sunlight and turn off and on automatically saving you both time and money.

To make big differences in your bills, sometimes big changes and trying new things are necessary. These 5 tips may not be mainstream but can easily be done and are great ways to save energy.
